Remember that “life begins at forty”, why not have a big party! Fancy dress  is always a daring thing but is well worth it. When organizing a fancy dress party remember to send out the invites well in advance because everyone will need to organize a costume. Luckily there are loads of places online that will allow you to be creative and customize your invitations.

Here are some fancy dress themes for 40th birthday party:

  • Surprise fancy –dress party: parties becomes more memorable if it is a surprise party. It must be ensured that all the invitees are aware it is a surprise fancy dress party and the invitees should join the party in fancy dress so the suspense remains till it is announced.
  • Hawaiian party. Everyone can dress up in coconuts and hoola skirts
  • Famous couples – why not dress up as Posh and Becks or Batman and Robin.
  • C List celebrities. This is easy for guests as they can use their own clothes to dress up as ‘the pink ladies’ from Grease or ‘Stacey’ from Eastenders
  • Pirates
  • Cowboys and Indians
  • Emergency services. Why not dress up as a fireman, nurse or policeman
  • 80’s theme with big curly perms and flowering clothes
  • School theme. Get the shirts and ties out!

Our favorite place for fancy dress is a large online retailer called Jokers Masquerade (LINK). Check them out.

40th Birthday Party Ideas

Life really begins at forty. At this stage of your life your children are growing up, you’ve got money in you pocket and you can start to do what you want for a change. Why not have a party to celebrate! There are various ways to celebrate here are some examples below:-

Surprise Party

Organising a party for yourself can be a real worry. Will everyone turn up? Will the music be catered for all ages? Will the food be ok? Will everybody enjoy themselves? By organizing a surprise party you are taking the pressure off of the birthday girl / boy. This leaves them to enjoy their party and not have to deal with the pressure and worry. The only problem is getting everybody to keep it a secret and somebody might let the secret out by accident.

Charity Party

I really wanted to do something really huge for my wife’s 40th but was as usual pretty tight on cash. My original idea was to hire her favorite singer and throw a party inviting close friends and families. Once adding up the cost I realized it was going to be far too expensive. I still wanted a party so I decided that the party would be there but it would be held for a charity event supporting an Orphanage that is very dear to our hearts. The venue were happy to rent out their accommodation for free and after making some calls and explaining that I wished to raise money for the Orphanage all the entertainers agreed to participate free. I invited about 100 guests and explained that it was a charity party and please could they make a small donation to the Orphanage, instead of buying gifts for my wife which they normally do. I only needed to pay for the food and little extra for the cake, decorations, and some miscellaneous expenses for the entertainments. The Party was a great success and we loved the donation that we could make also. We intend to do similar parties in future whenever the occasion arises.

Beautiful 40th Birthday Cakes

Beautiful 40th Birthday Cakes

Today I found a website called Michelle's Sugar Art. I have never been so impressed with cake decorating in all my life. The detail on the cakes is second to none and they are so inventive and original!

Take this cake (right) for example. This is my favourite car of all time and I am sure many 40 year old blokes would absolutely love to dig in to cake shaped like a Bugatti Veyron at their birthday party.

Her work is absolutely incredible. Check out this birthday cakes page which features a cake sculptured as somebodys face (with a photo next to it for comparison), a couple of overflowing designer shopping bags and a mindblowing cake made monopoly board.

40th Birthday Chocolate Cake

40th Birthday Chocolate Cake

So to kick start the 40th birthday blog, I thought I would attach a picture of a lovely personalised cake I saw at a friends 40th birthday a few months ago.The roses look beautiful and the cake was absolutely delicious.

If you look cloesly to the right, you will see there is another huge cake next to it. This is made out of pure pick and mix sweets and was the centrepiece of the table! There are big flumps all around the edges as you can see which leads on to Haribo foam hearts.

If you are throwing a 40th birthday party then I do really recommend finding a good cake decorator as not only do they look great and taste delicious, but also they are talking point for people at the party and for days afterwards.
